Encon Solar and Westport Partner to Develop Metro-North’s First Solar Transportation Hub

The Town of Westport is fast becoming a Fairfield County leader in the adoption of solar technology, capitalizing on partnerships with Solarize CT and Encon Solar to help homeowners and businesses reap the cost and environmental benefits of solar power. Encon Solar is pleased to announce that the town’s latest installation will transform the Saugatuck Railroad Station into the first solar transportation hub along the Metro-North Rail Line with the addition of four solar-powered charging stations for electric vehicles.

Encon Solar, a division of Encon, will install a 27-kilowatt solar-panel array on the roof of the depot’s eastbound terminal. The solar array will feed power to the charging stations and lights on the platform and provide electricity to businesses in the eastbound terminal. ECI Energy will manage the solar-panel installation and bill the town for energy usage — at a cost expected to be 30 percent less than what it would otherwise pay a traditional utility company. Installation will begin second week of November, and a ribbon cutting is scheduled for Dec. 19.
